LIGHT SOURCE:
Paintings by Barbara B. Davis

Upper Level Galleries: May 10 through July 15, 2017

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:

Born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama, Barbara Davis has painted since the age of fourteen. She obtained a degree in Fine Art from Auburn University Montgomery in 1987 while primarily working in the banking industry with the hope of pursuing her art as an avocation. Davis worked to eventually become a full-time artist, and now that dream has been realized.

Barbara Davis painted portraits full time in the mid 1990's. In 2004, however, began painting en plein air. "It changed my life and opened many doors," she explained. Barbara has taken workshops from such outstanding artists as Roger Dale Brown, Perry Austin, Mark Horton, Christopher Groves, and other members of Plein Air Painters of the Southeast and the members of the Cumberland Society of Painters, including the late Gordon Wetmore. She paints in oil and loves to paint the effect of light. Her subject matter is across the board—landscapes, still life, portraits, figures, animals, but her heart seems always 'drawn to the skies.
